Paul acts as an independent BIM consultant under the shy pseudonym of Revit Guru, capable of delivering the most advanced advice and experience available in the industry today. His worldwide reputation stems from being part of that elite group of Revit Corporation staff that first brought the product to the market. After more than ten years of offering implementation and deployment advice to over two hundred clients, Paul is uniquely placed to provide assistance on even the most complex project.

Paul maintains a position at the forefront of ideas, techniques and usage within the industry, writing for numerous trade journals and chairing the creation of the AEC (UK) BIM standard for Revit, thereby ensuring that advice to clients is relevant and in line with the latest thoughts. In addition to speaking and teaching at events such as Autodesk University, Paul also trains trainers and consultants around the world on behalf of Autodesk, and is the author of several books.

Much of Paul’s time is dedicated to the design and project management of large deployment plans within international practices looking to achieve a successful and consistent implementation of Building Information Modelling using Autodesk Revit. This involves a deep participation in the clients’ projects and deadlines, with an understanding of inter-department and inter-company collaboration, often involving the multi-discipline co-ordination of large projects and/or complex geometry.

As BIM is gaining acceptance within the industry, much is still to be understood by all parties regarding the ramifications of adopting a whole new ethos and workflow. Paul has been tasked by several of the biggest companies and one Institute in the construction market to educate senior management and project leaders on the topic of BIM and what it really means.

Experience

Following an apprenticeship with an engineering consultancy in the North-East of England, Paul emerged as a Civil / Structural designer, working in Europe and the Middle-East on large scale engineering projects. Most notable amongst these was involvement in the development of one of the leading Aluminium smelters in the world, culminating in a confidential project to optimise smelter design. This resulted in a commemorative award and letter of commendation from the UAE government.

Paul then went on to work with a market-leading supplier of professional presentation and event production equipment, as the manager of the Media, Film and Graphics department in the Middle-East. This involved the coordination of film crews, musicians, editors, animators and digital modellers on many varied projects.

And then came Revit...

Following a stint of travelling, Paul landed a position as Application Engineer with a start-up software company called the Revit Corporation. Tasked with supporting the sales teams in demonstrating and teaching Revit to the early adopter customers, Paul was one of the few that survived the acquisition by Autodesk and subsequent escalation of interest in Revit. Within Autodesk, Paul acted in a role of Technical Channel Development, teaching and developing skills with the reseller partners across Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Paul then joined a leading reseller partner in the UK, responsible for business development issues surrounding AEC products and with a primary focus on providing implementation and deployment advice and high-end consultancy to companies and individuals looking to adopt Autodesk software or to realise the full potential of previous investments.

By stepping out on his own three years ago, Paul has broken free of the politics and pressure surrounding software sales and focuses on giving the best advice and assistance to customers.
